Right to life

The right to life is a core human right requiring the state not to take life unlawfully and to protect life through appropriate laws, policing, emergency services, and investigations. In Switzerland, it is recognised constitutionally and through international human rights obligations. The right does not make every death a legal violation; the issue is whether authorities respected substantive and procedural duties. It is relevant to use of force, detention, medical settings, domestic violence risks, and environmental or disaster-related dangers.
