Seizure of evidence

Seizure of evidence allows Swiss criminal authorities to take or freeze items, records, electronic data or assets that may serve as evidence, be confiscated, or secure costs and compensation. It must rest on suspicion and proportionality, and privileged material, third-party rights and business or professional secrecy require careful handling. Seizure may follow a search or be ordered separately. Persons affected can normally request sealing, challenge the measure, or seek release when the reason for seizure no longer exists.
