Short-stay permit

In Switzerland, the short-stay permit is commonly the L permit. It allows a foreign national to remain for a limited purpose and duration, such as temporary employment, training, study, or another short-term stay. Conditions differ for EU/EFTA nationals and third-country nationals, and quotas, labour market rules, or visa requirements may apply. The permit does not normally create a stable residence status and renewal is limited by the purpose of stay. Holders must respect the authorised activity, address requirements, and any conditions imposed by cantonal and federal authorities.
