Wealth tax

Wealth tax is a periodic tax, mainly cantonal and communal in Switzerland, on an individual’s net assets after allowable deductions.

Swiss wealth tax is levied by cantons and communes on individuals’ net wealth, usually including movable assets, real estate, securities, bank balances and certain claims, less debts and statutory allowances. The Confederation does not levy a general wealth tax on individuals. Valuation rules and rates vary by canton, and intercantonal or international allocation may apply where assets or taxpayers are connected to several jurisdictions. Companies are generally subject instead to capital tax on equity at cantonal level.
