Local jurisdiction
Local jurisdiction allocates cases among courts of the same subject-matter competence by territorial connecting factors. In Switzerland, typical links include the defendant’s domicile or seat, the place of performance, the location of property, or the place where harmful events occurred. Some venues are mandatory, while others may be elective or agreed by forum clause. Correct venue affects admissibility and efficiency; an objection must often be raised early, unless the rule protects a public or mandatory interest.
